British rider Holly Smith was the winner of Saturday’s small Grand Prix at the Sunshine Tour. The CSI4* 1.45m class sponsored by the Ayuntamiento de Vejer counted for the world ranking, and saw Smith going to the top riding April IV (breeding unknown).
Eighteen riders moved on to the jump-off, where Smith and the 12-year-old mare stopped the clock at 37.90 seconds and although many tried their best the time proved unbeatable. The very last rider to go, another well-known Brit, Joe Whitaker on Virginia (Centauer Z x breeding unknown), was the closest and took second place in 38.08. Swedish rider Angelie Von Essen and Creme De La Creme 6 (Casall x Landgraf I) took third place just behind in 38.35 seconds. Then followed three more British riders: William Funnell, Daniel Neilson and John Whitaker.
