Richard Howley (IRL) on the 14-year-old gelding Mansini LTD (Caressini L x Marramas) and Commandant Geoff Curran (IRL) on the 12-year-old mare HHS Clinstown (Obos Quality x Cavalier Royale) topped Thursday's CSI4* 1.50m Barceló Conil Playa Trophy at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.
The Grand Prix qualifier had no less than 115 horse-and-rider combinations at start in the David Broome arena, and was split in two groups.
Fastest against the clock in group one, was Richard Howley who crossed the finish line in 56.31 seconds – leaving Derin Demirsoy (TUR) and Caprice d'Elle (Arko III x Papillon Rouge) to the runner-up position, 3.51 seconds behind. Duarte Seabra (POR) and HHS Washington (Tinaranas Inspector x Cavalier Royale) took the third place with a time of 61.77 seconds, followed by Sophie Hinners (GER) and Grode Deern (Casall x Landjunge) in fourth in 62.49, and Adrian Whiteway (GBR) in fifth aboard Floris (Zavall VDL x Colando) in 62.60 seconds.
In group two, Commandant Geoff Curran had the winning time of 59.55 seconds and left Alexa Ferrer (FRA) on Helium D.S. (Coeur de Cachas DS x Zuenftiger ) behind him with over a second separating the two riders as the clock stopped on 60.73 for the French rider. In third followed Margaux Rocuet (FRA) and Iliade KDW Z (Indoctro x Brahmann St Simeon), over two seconds behind the winning time after crossing the finish line in 61.87. Alberto Marquez Galobardes (ESP) finished fourth with Aldo du Manoir (Iowa x Arpege Pierreville) in 62.58, while Michael Pender (IRL) took fifth with HHS Fast Forward (Fortunus x Cavalier Royale) in 62.78.
