Germany's own Maximilian Weishaupt and the 17-year-old Nexus (Nekton x Calando I) took Saturday's biggest win at the CSI4* Longines Pfingst Turnier in Wiesbaden, when topping the 1.50m Lotto-Hessen Prize.
"Nexus has a huge stride and is a really fast horse," Weishaupt explained in a press release from the Longines Pfingst Turnier. "Speed has been my weakness so far, but I'm currently trying to improve it. I actually only took over Nexus in 2019 from a good customer and friend of ours as a maternity replacement," the 32-year-old German smiled. "Unfortunately, she is no longer pregnant and would probably like to have him back again soon."
Counting for the Longines Ranking, the 1.50m competition in two phases saw 43 horse-and-rider-combinations at start. Stopping the clock on 32.60, Weishaupt took the win ahead of Victor Bettendorf (LUX) and the 11-year-old Mr. Tac (Non Stop x Toulon) in second in 33.42. Jack Whitaker (GBR) and Equine America Q Pavarotti N (Quality Time TN x Indoctro) placed third in 33.51, while Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) and Cous Cous (Cachas x Lasino) finished fourth in 34.14, followed by Willem Greve (NED) in fifth in 34.35 aboard Highway M TN (Eldorado v. Zeshoek x Chellano).
The first qualifier for the Longines Grand Prix, the CSI4* 1.45m presented by Sportpferdezentrums Rhein-Main, Hofgut im Spess, went to Victor Bettendorf (LUX) and the 12-year-old Big Star Des Forets (Untouchable M x Voltaire Pref).
With a time of 64.97, Bettendorf took the win ahead of Ansgar Holtgers Jr. (USA) and Tulum (Chacco-Blue x Captain Paul I) in the runner-up position in 65.92.
