Two home riders have provided wins in the qualifications for Sunday's prestigious German Jumping Derby in Hamburg.
On Thursday, Hilmar Meyer won the CSI3* 1.45 qualifier aboard the 10-year-old Salto de Fee (Stakkato Gold x Faschingsprinz). Mario Stevens and El Bandiata (El Bundy I x Picard) followed 0.55 seconds behind as 54 riders had lined up to try to get a ticket for Sunday's big happening in Hamburg. Italy's Emanuele Gaudiano squeezed into third aboard Kentucky v. Neerhof Z (Kashmir Van Schuttershof x Karsten).
On Friday, Mario Stevens went from runner-up to winner in the second qualification set at 1.50. Clear in a time of 97.38 seconds, Stevens went to the top of the podium once again riding El Bandiata B. Two British riders finished second and third, preventing a total German dominance: William Whitaker was runner-up on Glenavadra Brilliant (Brilliant Lad x Powerswood Purple) more than four seconds behind Stevens while NIgel Coupe came third on Glovers Hill (Ricardo Z x Clover Hill).
