Press release from Pennsylvania National Horse Show

Some of the biggest names in show jumping - including Olympic medalists and World Cup Champions - have confirmed their entries for the 2019 Pennsylvania National Horse Show (PNHS). The famed indoor show returns to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, October 10-19. More than $650,000 prize money is awarded during the 10-day show, with the biggest prize coming in the exciting $134,000 Grand Prix de Penn National grand finale!

Now in its 74th year, the PNHS hosts over 1,400 of the best hunter, jumper and equitation riders from across the nation - including Olympic veterans and National Champions. USEF Premier rated for Hunters, USEF 6* and FEI CSI3* rated for Jumpers, the PNHS is a designated "USEF Heritage Competition," an honor reserved for a select group of exceptional competitions.

This year's PNHS will host two internationally sanctioned FEI CSI3* jumper classes, designed by FEI 4* Course Designer and Olympic silver medalist, Michel Vaillancourt. The nation's top jumping riders and horses will go head-to-head in the $60,000 Pennsylvania Big Jump, with an increase of $10,000 in prize money over last year, and the $134,000 Grand Prix de Penn National which is held on the show's final day, Saturday, October 19.

Thirty-three riders from seven nations including Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ireland, Israel, Switzerland, and USA will contest the FEI and open jumper division. Heading the list of entries is four-time U.S. Olympic veteran Beezie Madden, who has won two gold medals in addition to one silver and one bronze. She was the 2018 and 2013 FEI World Cup™ Champion and is fresh from winning individual and team bronze medals at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. At last year's PNHS, Madden took second place in the $50,000 Pennsylvania Big Jump and won both the Leading Rider Award and Leading Lady Rider Award for Open Jumpers.

Putting on the pressure will be Switzerland's Beat Mandli, a two-time Olympian who won a team silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and who was also the 2007 FEI World Cup™ Champion. At last year's PNHS, Mandli bested a six-horse jump-off to win the Grand Prix de Penn National, a repeat performance from 2014.

Other Olympic veterans coming to Harrisburg include Canada's Amy Millar, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and countryman Mac Cone, who competed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics where he won a team silver medal. Cone also competed at the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Jerez, Spain.

Other top U.S. riders entered at this year's PNHS include Laura Chapot, who won a team bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games; Katie Dinan, who has competed at four FEI World Cup Finals; Jimmy Torano, who competed at two World Cup Finals; David Raposa, who competed at three World Cup Finals; Peter Lutz, who competed at the 2016 World Cup Final; Andrew Kocher and Sarah Scheiring, who both competed at the 2018 World Cup Final; and Callan Solem, who competed at the 2016 World Cup Final where she was the highest-placed U.S. rider (seventh).

Also entered are Roberto Teran of Colombia, who competed at the 2014 WEG in Normandy, France; Jonathan Corrigan of Ireland, Canada's Keean White, who has competed at two World Cup Finals and countryman Erynn Ballard. Sydney Shulman, representing Israel, and Thaisa Erwin of Australia have also entered.

"We are thrilled to welcome so many top riders to our 74th annual show," said Susie Webb, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania National Horse Show Foundation. "The competition will no doubt be thrilling right to the very end, so book your tickets now - this is the place to be!"
