Pieter Devos is in top form at the moment, and on Sunday afternoon he continued his winning ways when going to the top on home soil in the CSI3* Grand Prix of Liege.
With the 12-year-old gelding Espoir (Surcouf de Revel x Laudanum XX), his winner from the CSI5* Grand Prix of Oslo in October, the Belgian rider once again took the top honors against a strong field of riders in this 1.60m Grand Prix competition.
Nine of the 47 riders in the class made it to the jump-off after going clear over the first round track, and with three of them being Belgian the home crowds were in for a treat. By over a second, Devos secured a popular home win ahead of reigning World Cup Champions Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Corbinian (Cornet Obolensky x Pilot) – to take the top prize of 23 100 Euro.
Third place went to Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on Yajamila (Lux Z x Daimler B), almost two seconds behind the winners. Gregory Wathelet contributed to more Belgian success with the wonderful Coree (Cornet Obolensky x Liberty Life), ending fourth – while Sweden's Jonna Ekberg was fifth with Hildago VG (Quadrillo x Andiamo) producing the final double clear of the competition.
