Lucy Davis on her thoughts about her chances before the jump-off; "When you have 16 (others) in the jump-off you can’t really think about your chances you just have to go for it. There were most of the top riders in the world here at the show so there is no room for caution you just have to give it your best go. I knew that with the horse I was on, Barron, my chances were good. He is super fast and careful."
Lucy on the question whether she thought it was possible to win after seeing several of the really fast riders such as Kent (Farrington) and Karim (El Zoghby); "When I saw Kent I thought that was extremely fast and when Karim beat him I was very impressed but I just figured that everyone kept going a little bit faster so I didn’t reallt count any numbers since people were doing different things I just went off my horse’s stride which is huge. I also left out a stride in the middle, which was probably where I got the time."
Runner-up Karim El Zoghby; "I went for it but last week I also went for it and had one down so I went for it, but at the same time calmer. She is fast anyway and I am very happy with her today."
Number three Piergiorgio Bucci; "Congratulations to Lucy, I think there was almost nothing to do. She was amazing. When I saw her I said, lets go for the second place."
All the riders gave a lot of credit to Stephan Conter and the rest of the show organizers for a super show.
Stephan Conter; "The start of the week was a bit stressful, but as the first rider entered the ring the stress was gone. I have the best team around me. Without them it would not be possible to organize this show."
Stephan also talked about the importance of making more 5* shows to give riders the possibility to get into the shows. “There are so many good riders who are not a part of the top 30. If we organize only one 5* show a week it is always the same riders who can go to the shows.“
