Steve Guerdat (SUI) took yet another victory at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2022, when going to the top in Sunday’s CSI4* 1.55m Big Tour Grand Prix aboard the 11-year-old Albführen’s Maddox (Cohiba x Maraton). This was the second big win at the tour for the reigning European team champions, that also went off with the top honours in one of the Grand Prix qualifiers last week.

It was a demanding track that Louis Konickx (NED) had built for the Grand Prix, and in the end only seven of the 50 riders that had qualified in for the class managed to answer all the questions asked to produce a clear round.

Last to go in the jump-off in the beautiful David Broome-arena, Guerdat pushed Olivier Perreau (FRA) and GL Events Venizia D’Aiguilly (Diamant de Semilly x Quick Star) down to the runner-up position after shaving off 0.46 seconds on their time when stopping the clock at 37.55. Third place went to Max Kühner (AUT) and EIC Coriolis des Isles (Zandor x Tlaloc M), with a time of 38.84 seconds in the jump-off. Kendra Claricia Brinkop (GER) and Malissa de Muze (Vigo D’Arsouilles STX x For Pleasure) finished fourth, and Alain Jufer (SUI) with Dante MM (Diarado x Luxius) fifth.

Earlier in the day, Aurelia Loser (SUI) won the CSI4* 1.50m Medium Tour Grand Prix jumped in the Hickstead ring – which also proved to be a tough class with only eight of the 62 horse-and-rider combinations managing to jump clear rounds to move on to the jump-off.

Against the clock, Loser was the fastest when crossing the finish line in 35.73 seconds aboard the 12-year-old Anaba Haize (Ravage de Mars x C Indoctro II). Almost a second behind followed Gudrun Patteet (BEL) on Sea Coast Donna Z (Diamant de Semilly x C Indoctro ), while Lucas Porter (USA) took the third place with C Hunter (Cassini II x Corland ) when clocking the time of 36.75 seconds. Michael Hughes (USA) posted the last double clear of the class to place fourth with Melodie-K van’t Kattenheye (Cornet Obolenski x Kannan). With four faults in the jump-off, Steve Guerdat had to settle for the fifth place with Dynamix de Belheme (Snaike de Blondel x Cornet Obolensky).
