The current world number one and two, Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann and Switzerland's Steve Guerdat went neck to neck in Saturday's CSI4* 1.50m Premio Kataltherm Service AS | Bedano in Ascona, Switzerland.
Counting for the Longines Ranking Group C, the competition saw the twelve best pairs from the 41 at start move to the decisive second round, where Guerdat and Lancelotta (Falkenhof's Lancer x Orland) clocked the fastest time, 42.12 seconds – fractions ahead of von Eckermann and Calizi (Cellestial x Stakkatol), who had to settle for the runner-up spot with their time of 42.13.
Robert Whitaker (GBR) and Vermento (Argneto x Skippy) placed third in 42.48, while Anthony Bourquard (SUI) and Everest d'Ellipse (Vagabond de la Pomme x Kannan) finished fourth in 44.62 and Sira Accola (SUI) aboard Koriano van Klapscheut (Lord Z x Darco) fifth in 48.02.
The second CSI4* class of the day – the 1.45m Premio Manz Isolazioni e Resinswiss | Mezzovico – counting for the Longines Ranking Group D – went to Pius Schwizer (SUI) and Grigia BR Z (George Z x Comme d'Api vd Hacienda). With a time of 34.31 in the jump-off between eight horse-and-rider combinations, the Swiss veteran took the win ahead of Annina Züger-Hächler (SUI) and Batman d'Aiguilly (Diamant de Semilly x Caretino) in second in 36.00 and Paris Sellon (USA) and Calida Z (Cornet Obolensky x Carthago) in third in 36.01.
