Edited press release from Global Champions League
The Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames secured the 2024 GCL-title and made an extraordinary mark on their first-ever GCL season in Rabat, Morocco.
Denying Riesenbeck International powered by Kinsgland Equestrian what would have been their third GCL overall win in a row, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmerman (GER), Natalie Dean (USA) and Sophie Hinners (GER) aboard their superstar mounts Messi Van’t Ruytershof (Plot Blue x For Pleasure), Acota M (Toulon x Quattro) and Iron Dames Singclair (Singular LS La Silla x Cardento) secured the overall season win for Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames in Rabat, leaving Riesenbeck International – a team managed by Ludger Beerbaum – for second place by 20 points.
An emotional Cannes Stars team founder Deborah Mayer spoke proudly of her team winning the overall title: “I have no words. I have so many emotions. It’s really amazing. Natalie, Sophie, Janne, Sanne, Kim and Katrin have been amazing. It's a huge honour that we receive. I have no words to express how I feel and the huge immense pride I have for what the whole team has achieved.”
Stockholm Hearts powered by H&M We Love Horses took the final spot on the overall podium just 11 points behind second, while Doha Falcons secured fourth place in 252 points, meaning they are the last team to qualify straight for the GCL Super Cup Semi-Final at the GC Playoffs in November, crucially skipping the knock-out Quarter Final.
Filled with thrills and spills, the GCL of Rabat presented by Years of Culture as part of Qatar-Morocco 2024 saw team Rome Gladiators powered by ClipMyHorse.TV with Lorenzo de Luca (ITA), Kyle Timm (CAN) and Michael Duffy (IRL) on their horses Denver de Talma (Vigo Cece x Canturo), Casino Calvin (Casino Berlin OLD x Calvin), Candar Mail (Lando x Fergar Mail) and Quirex (Quirado x Concept) deliver the only double clear of the day to win the Rabat stage in style. However, it was too late in the season to secure a top four finish in the overall GCL ranking.
