This week, the Longines Global Champions Tour makes its annual stop in Madrid, Spain, for the fifth leg of the season. Going into the LGCT of Madrid, home hero Eduardo Alvarez Aznar leads the LGCT championship race ahead of the first European stage of the year with a slim margin of five points over Max Kühner (AUT).
The two will be joined by LGCT Grand Prix of Mexico-winner Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) as well as Gilles Thomas (BEL) who comes fresh from a victory at the LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai.
Other Spanish riders joining Eduardo Alvarez Aznar at the stunning Club de Campo Villa de Madrid are Sergio Alvarez Moya, Armando Trapote, Manuel Fernandez Saro, Mariano Martinez Bastida and Teresa Blazquez-Abascal, while the entry list also includes current world number one Henrik von Eckermann (SWE), world number two Ben Maher (GBR) as well as big names such as Laura Kraut (USA), Niels Bruynseels (BEL), Christian Kukuk (GER), Katrin Eckermann (GER), Philipp Weishaupt (GER), John Whitaker (GBR), Scott Brash (GBR) and Maikel van der Vleuten (NED).
