Yesterday they were runners-up in The Sport Ireland Classic, today Bertram Allen and the 9-year-old mare Izzy by Picobello (Cicero Z x Capriano) went to the top in The Anglesea Serpentine Stakes at CSIO5* Dublin Horse Show.
The 1.55m class saw no less than 21 of the 49 horse-and-rider combinations go clear over the first round track to move on to the jump-off. There, Allen was the fastest with his round in 35.63 seconds.
Allen's compatriots Greg Broderick on Chinook II (Verdi x Little Rock) and Richie Moloney on Carrabis Z (Canabis Z x Grannusso) made sure the home crowds got even more to celebrate when they finished third and fourth. Japan's Karen Polle on With Wings (Larino x L.Ronald) squeezed into second with her time of 35.88, and Mexico's Federico Fernandez on Landpeter Do Feroleto (Landritter x Wangmix) shared the fourth place with Moloney.
Greg Broderick has been on fire so far in Dublin, and took his second win of the week in Thursday's Speed Derby by The Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge. Like yesterday, Broderick's winning partner was the 13-year-old stallion Zuidam (Guidam x Indoctro).
Two seconds behind in this 1.35-1.45m Table C class followed Broderick's team mate Billy Twomey on Ardcolum Duke (Gypsy Duke x Clover Hill), while Shane Breen secured an all-Irish podium in Dublin when finishing third on Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fara) followed by another three Irish riders on the result list.
