Ben Maher (GBR) and the 15-year-old mare Ginger-Blue (Plot Blue x Royal Bravour) won Saturday’s CSIO5* 1.45m Unex Group Speed Classic at Hickstead.
With a time of 62.82, the current world number four took the win ahead of Matthew Sampson (GBR) and Latte Macchiato (Pacino x Boherdeal Clover) in second in 63.05 and Richard Howley (IRL) with Caprice d’Elle (Arko III x Papillon Rouge) in third in 64.43. Millie Allen (GBR) aboard Quick Diamant HR (Diamant de Semilly x Quidam de Revel) followed in fourth, while Angelie von Essen (SWE) with Happiness DK Z (Hoock DK x Andiamo Z) finished fifth.
Saturday’s second five-star class, the CSIO5* 1.50m Royal International Trophy, went to Belgium’s Mathieu Bourdeaud’hui and My Kingdom (Cornet Obolensky x For Pleasure). In a jump-off of 15, the two clocked the winning time of 37.81, taking the top honours ahead of Robert Whitaker (GBR) on Strike A Pose (Catwalk IV x Lux Z) in second and Niels Bruynseels (BEL) with Devidanga SW Z (Dominator 2000 Z x Numero Uno) in third.
