On Wednesday afternoon, Dermott Lennon continued the Irish winning streak to take home the CSIO5* 1.50 feature class on the opening day in Gijon. Riding the 12-year-old mare Fleur IV (Chatman x Darco), Lennon finished the winning round in 43,04 seconds, 0.6 seconds ahead of runners-up Eric van der Vleuten (NED) and Quivive S Z (Quasimodo Z x Amsterdam).

Marc Bettinger (GER) followed in third place with Incroyable de Muze (Nabab de Reve x For Pleasure). Fourth place went to Federico Fernandez Senderos (MEX) riding Gitano (Caretano Z x Concorde) and Reed Kessler (USA) finished fifth with Cos I Can (Olympic Lux x Harlequin du Carel)
