Gerardo Menendez secured a popular home win in the CSIO5* Grand Prix of Gijon. Riding the 12-year-old stallion Cassino Dc (by Cassini I) the Spanish rider Menendez won with just 0,10 seconds down to runners-up Laura Roquet and Sandi Puigroq (by Diamant de Semilly) also representing Spain.
The best 12 riders qualified for the second round in the Grand Prix class presented by Funeraria Gijonesa, a 1.60m class counting for the world ranking. Only six of the riders produced a clear first round, while one rider carried a time penalty and the remaining five riders entered the second round carrying four faults.
In the end five riders concluded the Grand Prix on a zero-penalty score, and it was Louise Saywell (GBR) and Tin Tin (San Patrignano Mister x Animo) who joined the Spanish duo on the top three podium. Victor Bettendorf (LUX) and Tobias Meyer (GER) joined in on the top five riding Sorbier Blanc (Jericho Pierreville x Voltaire) and Avanti (Quattro x Zeus) respectively.
