Great Britain wins the CSIO4* Sharjah Nations Cup presented by Longines

The CSIO4* event at Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club in the United Arab Emirates concluded on Sunday, with Great Britain taking the top honours in the 1.50m Sharjah Nations Cup presented by Longines.

A total of seven teams participated in the Nations Cup, where the British riders were in a league of their own. With a total of six penalties over the two rounds of competition, the Brits left Ireland behind them in second on 14 faults and the host nation in third on 26 penalties. 

William Funnell on Equine America Billy Picador (Billy Mexico x Animo) and Donald Whitaker on Millfield Colette (Cornet Obolensky x Clearway) produced the only two double clear rounds of the competition, securing the British team the win. Tim Gredley and Imperial HBF (Glasgow vh Merelsnest x Original VDL) had the drop-score in round one, but came back to record only two time penalties the second time out, while Joe Whitaker and Hulahupe JR (VDL BVubalu x Indoctro) did not even have to come back for round two after having only four faults in round one. 

On Saturday, Germany's David Will and My Prins van Dorperheide (Zilverstar T x Winningmood) won the CSIO4* 1.50m Sharjah Sport Council Cup. Only 0.01 seconds separated Will from runner-up Kristaps Neretnieks (LAT) and Palladium KJV (Lancer III x Cornet Obolensky), while Billy Twomey (IRL) and Chat Botte ED (Casall x Darco) followed in third – 0.34 seconds behind the winning time.
