Great Britain’s Michael Whitaker and Cassionatio have withdrawn from further competition in Rio after the horse showed colic symptoms following yesterday’s first round of team competition at the Olympic Games.

Whitaker and Cassionatio had qualified for today’s third individual round in 42nd place, but have been withdrawn from the remainder of the jumping competition.

GBR Jumping Performance Manager Di Lampard said last night; “Obviously we are all very disappointed for Michael and owners Gary and Beverly Widdowson. Cassionato is being treated in the veterinary clinic this evening and is in very good hands. It just shows the effort the horse put into today’s round.”
