On Thursday, the Government of Japan announced a state of emergency in Tokyo as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases remains high and the number of variant strains increases.

The announcement of the state of emergency was followed by a five-party meeting between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Japanese government, who jointly came to the decision that no spectators will be allowed at any venue during the Olympic Games.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will feature 33 competitions and 339 events held across 42 competition venues, with the Opening Ceremony on July 23. The showjumping starts on August 3 with the individual qualifer and ends on August 7 with the team final.
