After three rounds of competition at the Longines FEI European Championships 2019 in Rotterdam, Ben Maher (GBR) and Explosion W have kept their lead individually. With only a pole in between the top four, and the whole top ten within eight faults, Sunday's individual final is looking to be an exciting one.

The top ten on the individual standings are:

1) Ben Maher (GBR) and Explosion W  (Chacco-Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) –  0.62

2) Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Igor (Emerald van 't Ruytershof x Nabab de Reve) – 1.68

3) Martin Fuchs (SUI) and Clooney 51 (Cornet Obolensky x Ferragamo) – 3.46

4) Gregory Wathelet (BEL) and MJT Nevados S (Calvados Z x Romualdo) – 4.63

5) Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Albführen's Bianca (Balou du Rouet x Cardento) – 5.31

6) Alexis Deroubaix (FRA) and Timon d’Aure (Mylord Carthago HN x Drakkar Des Hutins) – 5.40

7) Daniel Deusser (GER) and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve x Mr. Blue) – 5.47

8) Simone Blum (GER) and DSP Alice (Askari x Landrebell) – 6.21

9) Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) and Toveks Mary Lou (Montendro x Portland L) – 7.56

10) Peder Fredricson (SWE) and H&M All In (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Andiamo Z) – 8

The 25 best horses and riders move on to the first round of the individual final, and the second round is open to the best twelve. If some of the best 25 athletes are unable to start, they can be replaced with the next best placed athlete(s).

As usual, it is expected that some of the top 25 will rethink their participation on the demanding last day. Ireland's Darragh Kenny, who had collected 9.78 penalties over the first three rounds, has already announced that he will be not taking part in the individual final with Balou du Reventon (Cornet Obolensky x Continue). "Together with my great owner we have decided to withdraw Balou from the individual final at the Europeans, with the goal to qualify Ireland as a team for the Olympics we have to now safe him and concentrate on Barcelona Ireland's last chance to qualify, thank you Balou for a super week!" he writes on his Instagram.
