Dutch national coach Wout-Jan van der Schans has been forced to make a change in his squad for the 2025 Longines FEI Jumping European Championship, set to take place from 16 to 20 July at Casas Novas Equestrian Centre in A Coruña, Spain.
Hessel Hoekstra and Comthago VDL (Comme Il Faut 5 x Carthago Z) were initially on the Dutch team for the Europeans, but will be replaced by Michael Greeve and Denver (Diarado x Quantum). Kevin Jochems and Camilla van de Helle (Crumble x Casall) will step in as the fifth Dutch duo that travels to A Coruña, where they will compete individually.
“Comthago VDL and Hessel Hoekstra had a refusal in the triple combination in the second round of the Nations Cup in Aachen, and the stallion probably injured himself slightly,” Wout-Jan van der Schans commented in a press release from KNHS. “We want to give him time to recover, and the European Championships will come too early in a week and a half. That means Michael Greeve and Denver are moving up, and I have added Kevin Jochems with Camilla van de Helle as the fifth combination. They were the first reserve for this position and have already performed well in a number of Nations Cups this year. In Aachen they jumped very well in the Nations Cup, and they can gain experience at the European Championships so that we may benefit from that next year with the World Championships in Aachen on the calendar.”
