After a double clear round in the final of the Longines FEI European Championships for Young Riders, Great Britain's Harry Charles could climb to the top of the podium in Fontainebleau on Sunday afternoon.
Aboard Vivaldi du Dom (Casall x Veneur du Prelet), Charles stayed cool to keep his lead over the two 1.50m rounds of jumping – finishing on a total of 6.72 penalty points ahead of Germany's Cedric Wolf who jumped his way up the standings on Cho Chang J (Chacco Blue x Grand Amour) ending on a total of 13.65 penalty points. The bronze went to Austria's Felix Koller on Captain Future (Cristallo x Piano II) with 15.06 penalty points.
“I knew I had chances, but my horse was really amazing. This is his third European Championship and he won his sixth medal today,” said Charles, very moved by his victory.
Cedric Wolf, silver medallist, commented: “It’s amazing, I did not expect that medal at all. I was not on the podium before the last round of this final, but my horse fought hard for me."
