Unfortunately, the Italian team will continue the competition at the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship 2025 in A Coruña, Spain, with only three horse-and-rider combinations after Paolo Paini and Casal Dorato (Casalito x Tamino di Villa Emilia) suffered a fall during day one at Casas Novas Equestrian Center.

The fall happened in the ring during the first round of the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship 2025, and it has left Paini with a fracture in the cervical vertebrae (C6). “Paolo is currently wearing a collar to keep his head still, and he will be leaving with the first flight tomorrow morning to go back to Italy where he will go to a hospital for further examinations,” Italian chef d’equipe Marco Bergomi told World of Showjumping on Thursday morning. “As to Casal Dorato, our team vet checked him again this morning and we expect him to recover fully.”

“Paolo’s main concern was his horse, and the first thing he wanted to do this morning was to come to the stables to check on him even if he has pain in his neck. He is sad to not be able to help the team, but the other three riders will fight for him, and we all wish Paolo the best of luck in his recovery,” Bergomi said.

At World of Showjumping, we wish Paolo a speedy recovery!
