After taking the lead individually on day one of the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship 2025, Ireland's Daniel Coyle decided to withdraw his 15-year-old mare Legacy (Chippendale Z x Bon Ami) from the competition ahead of Thursday's second round in A Coruña, Spain.
Coyle was not a member of the Irish squad, and only competed individually in A Coruña where he won Wednesday's opening Table C competition. Already after his win yesterday, Coyle said that he was not sure that he would go to the end with the mare and that his priority would be to pick and choose what would be right for her – explaining that her form had not been great leading up to the Europeans.
Explaining the decision to withdraw Legacy, Coyle commented in a press release from Horse Sport Ireland: “Ariel and I both feel that if we jump all of the rounds here, there will be nothing left for the rest of the year. We are now looking forward to the Dublin Horse Show next month and Legacy competing in front of the home crowd at the RDS.”
Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Show Jumping Manager Michael Blake added: “Daniel came to the championship as reserve rider for the team and both he and Legacy were fantastic yesterday. Today, she is not feeling 100 per cent and she cannot contribute any further to the Irish team and therefore it was a decision that was made with her interests very much at heart.”
“Daniel and Ariel are amazing team players and this legendary mare will have plenty more legendary days,” Blake concluded in the press release.
