“That’s not him going fast, at all,” Ireland’s Jordan Coyle said after For Gold (For Fashion x Heraldik) won Wednesday’s CSIO5* 1.50m Telus Cup in the International Ring at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ 2025 in Calgary, Canada. “It was surprising that it held up, to be honest – I thought someone would be faster,” the 32-year-old – currently ranked 34th in the world – said about their winning time of 57.16.

“My main aim, as probably for everyone here, is obviously the Grand Prix,” Coyle continued, referring to Sunday’s 'CPKC International' Grand Prix, presented by Rolex, one of the four Majors in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. “Top three in this [class] gets you to the Grand Prix, so that was my plan. It is a bonus to win, but my plan was to get to the Grand Prix.”

“He hasn’t done a jump, a pole on the ground, since Dublin, which was a little over two weeks ago,” Coyle explained about the 14-year-old gelding For Gold. “Today he felt amazing, amazing – I think he was happy to be back here. I probably won’t do much more with him this week, the big class for him is Sunday. I might do the Six Bar on him just to jump a few rounds and then leave him for Sunday, that’s the plan.”

Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Cupcake Z (Chacco-Blue x Nissan Caretano Z) took the runner-up spot in 57.47 behind Coyle and For Gold, while Kara Chad (CAN) and Corinna Z (Cornet Obolensky x Kannan) placed third in 58.66, followed by Kristaps Neretnieks (LAT) on Valour (Verdi TN x Calido I) in fourth in 58.84 and Sophie Hinners (GER) aboard Call Me Jabri (Call Me Pezi x Böckmann’s Lord Pezi) in fifth in 58.85.

“Every day, I want to win, every day I want to do the best for the horse,” Coyle said about handling the pressure of an exciting week ahead at Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ where the 50th anniversary celebrations ramp up towards Saturday’s CSIO5* 1.60m BMO Nations' Cup and Sunday’s 'CPKC International' Grand Prix, presented by Rolex. “It is just the same, it is another day – luckily, this week there is more money than normal.”
