Ireland's Darragh Kenny opened Wednesday's competitions in Aachen with a win in the 1.45m Prize of Handwerk, riding the 9-year-old gelding Cacan (Clapton x Cantus).

With a time of 65.64 in this speed class, Kenny left Egypt's Abdel Said and Venise du Reverdy (Quidam de Revel x Robin II Z) behind him in second place in 67.58. In third followed France's Thierry Rozier on Star (Singulord Jot, Oes x Caretino), stopping the clock at 70.01. Great Britain's Harry Charles, newly crowned European Champion for Young Riders, finished fourth on Controe (Wender R x Iroko) and Brazil's Pedro Veniss fifth on For Felicila (For Pleasure x Espri).
