The victory in Friday afternoon’s CSI5* 1.55m Prix des Communes Genevoises at the 2025-edition of CHI Geneva – which also served as the second qualifier for Sunday’s Rolex Grand Prix – went to Great Britain’s Jessica Mendoza (GBR) and the 12-year-old mare In The Air (Air Jordan x Indoctro).
“I think I had a good draw near the end; I knew I had to be quick and what I had to do, and she was great – with me the whole time,” Mendoza told World of Showjumping after her victory.
“I’ve had her for two years now, she has sort of grown and found herself this year,” she said about In The Air. “She has gone from her first five-star to winning a five-star. I think she is one of the best horses I have ever sat on, she is incredible. She has a heart of gold.”
As pair number 36 out in the class, Mendoza and In The Air – a duo that placed 11th individually at this summer’s European Championships – clocked the winning time of 67.83 seconds, besting a field of 47 horse-and-rider combinations over another demanding track set by Gérard Lachat (SUI) and Gregory Bodo (FRA).
As the second pair out, Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA) and the 13-year-old gelding Hantano (Quasimodo Z x Numero Uno) had set the standard in this competition judged as a Table A against the clock when crossing the finish line in 68.48 seconds – eventually good enough for second place.
Cian O’Connor (IRL) and Genghis Khan (Kannan x Diamant de Semilly) completed the top three with a time of 68.55 seconds, followed by Gilles Thomas (BEL) with Chuck Marienshof Z (Colestus x Emerald) in fourth in 68.60 and Kevin Staut (FRA) aboard Vida Loca Z in fifth in 69.01.
