“She gave me my first win in Aachen and now she gave me my first win in Calgary – I am really grateful to have her, she is an amazing horse,” France’s Nina Mallevaey said about the 10-year-old mare My Clementine (O.B.O.S. Quality 004 x Kashmir van Schuttershof) after the two won Thursday’s CSIO5* 1.50m ATCO Cup at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ 2025 in Calgary, Canada.
Crossing the finish line in 46.16 seconds in the second round, Mallevaey – the leading FEI U25 rider in the world, who has arrived at Spruce Meadows fresh from a win in the Rolex Grand Prix of Brussels – and My Clementine took the top honours ahead of Eugenio Garza Perez (MEX) and Victer Finn DH Z (Va Vite x Stakkato) in second with a time of 48.09.
“Clementine has a great personality and I think she loves to go fast, so it is a good thing for me to have her in a jump-off,” Mallevaey continued to speak about her winning mount. “She was a little shy yesterday in the 1.50m at the beginning and at the end of the course she was great. Today, she was amazing from number one to the last fence, she jumped everything so easily. I know she is a fast horse and really careful, so it was really fun to have her here.”
“I have been watching Calgary on TV for so many years, so to be here in real, to jump here and to win here is even more special,” the happy winner said about the venue at Spruce Meadows, that this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. “I want to say also a big thank you to the Rein-family, because it is thanks to them that I am here. They give me the best support, the best horses to compete. And also Helena Stormanns, she is not here but I still talked a lot with her on the phone about this course and she gave me all the advice to do it. And to all our team, all the grooms and everyone who works so hard to be here – I am really grateful to have an amazing team,” Mallevaey praised her support system.
Laura Kraut (USA) and Tres Bien Z (Toulon x Nabab de Reve) completed the podium, placing third in 48.63, followed by Nicola Philipperts (BEL) and Qnokke de Muze (Mosito van het Hellehof x Ronedo FCS) in fourth in 49.64 and Daniel Deusser (GER) aboard Pepita van’T Meulenhof BR (El Torreo de Muze x Carthago Z) in fifth in 49.88.
