“Phenyo really deserved this win and went for this win,” Richard Vogel (GER), 2025 European Champion and current world number four, said as he continued his winning ways at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ 2025 in Calgary, Canada, on Sunday morning when topping the CSIO5* 1.50m Suncor Cup with Phenyo van het Keysersbos (Corydon van T&L x Heartbreaker).
“He is such a naturally fast horse, so handy in the ring, so smart,” Vogel praised the 10-year-old stallion. “The roll-backs he can do and the foot speed he has is quite special. I didn’t line the option up very well, and came quite deep. He managed in front but had a rail behind. Thanks to the format of the class, we could make that up through obviously Phenyo being so quick – and he was fighting right until the end. He is a well-deserved winner.”
On Wednesday, Vogel and Phenyo won the CSIO5* 1.55m Cardel Homes Cup, and on Sunday, they added another victory to their resume with the Suncor Cup – a competition judged as a Table C, where penalties get converted into added seconds.
With a time of 78.16 seconds, the German rider snatched the win from Tom Wachman (IRL) and Do It Easy (Vigo Cece x Laeken) – who took the runner-up position in 81.48. Thibault Philippaerts (BEL) and Quilano (Arezzo VDL x Ahorn Z) followed in third in 82.00, Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) and Gadget Mouche (Andiamo Semilly x Consul DL Vie Z) in fourth in 83.45 and Kevin Staut (FRA) aboard Queen’s Balou B (Balou du Rouet x For Feeling) in fifth in 83.87.
