CHI Geneva 2021

We look back at Friday night's Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final at CHI Geneva – one of the real highlights of the year in the showjumping calendar – where Ben Maher, Henrik von Eckermann and Jerome Guery finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

King Edward must be the king of clear rounds this year! After another two impressive clear rounds in Geneva, Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward took the runner-up position in the 20th Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final – here with super-groom Tiia Karhu.

With the best horses in the world participating, the second round was all about cutting corners, tightening the turns, to save fractions of time.

A happy Jerome Guery after a first clear round with Quel Homme de Hus.

The top three grooms! Congrats to Cormac Kenny, Tiia Karhu and Kirsty Pascoe.

Kevin Staut was no. 11 on the world ranking published in November, but was still able to jump the Top 10 Final as Marlon Modolo Zanotelli – who was rank six – was not allowed to compete. Sadly for Zanotelli, he was completely unaware that he had missed paying the yearly membership fee to the IJRC, and even though he corrected his mistake as soon as he got to know about it, he was out and Staut was in. Staut ended fourth, riding Tolede de Mescam Harcour, after four faults in the first round and a great clear the second time around.

Scott Brash and Hello Jefferson had to settle for fifth place, after having the last fence down in round one and posting a clear the second time out.

After the second round all the riders were interviewed in the arena. Brash took his time to thank Hello Jefferson for the round – as always.

Daniel Deusser had his eyes set on the trophy and delivered a steady first clear. However, in the second round it was game over with a surprise refusal from Killer Queen VDM.

With two Swiss riders in the Top 10 Final, the hosts had a good chance of bringing the trophy home. However, it was not their day. Steve Guerdat was the best Swiss rider to end 7th, riding Victorio Des Frotards.

Peder Fredricson going through the course for the second round together with the Swedish Chef d'Equipe Henrik Ankarcrona. It was not his day though, with four faults in each rounds for the world no. one and Catch Me Not S.

Kent Farrington, the title-holder from 2019,  was perhaps hoping for more. Together with Austria 2, his winning mount from 2019, Farrington ended on a total of eight faults.

Martin Fuchs tried to be quick in the first round to get a better starting position in the second round, but ended on eight faults and was forced to start first in round two. With another four faults, Fuchs and Chaplin had to settle for tenth place.

Congrats to all of you!

Quite the opposites: Explosion W and Quel Homme de Hus – but both of them are living up to their names.

Once again congrats to Ben Maher and Explosion W!
