“Success is following your own vision”

To get to the top of the world in equestrian sport, you need the perfect infrastructure, first-class horses, optimum training opportunities and discipline to achieve your goal. The luxurious equestrian facility known as “La Baumetta” is designed for this very purpose. Let us tell you why and provide you with the facts & possibilities.

“La Baumetta” – from the foundation stone to the equestrian facility of today

This fascinating equestrian facility was built and financed by Hans Liebherr, the father of the internationally successful show jumper, Christina Liebherr.

Liebherr owes his business success to his ability to pick the right ideas at the right moment from a plethora of ideas. From the very start, his vision was to create a technically-sophisticated equestrian facility of the highest quality. He therefore planned the unique building project with great enthusiasm and a particular affinity for the details of architecture.

The “flagship” of the facility, the exclusive indoor riding arena, which is an imposing steel construction with a glass exterior, was finished in 2005. The “La Baumetta” equestrian centre covers approx. 37,000 m2 and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and best-equipped in Europe. Incidentally, the name “La Baumetta” is from a farmhouse which is more than 150 years old and situated directly adjacent to the modern stable complex.

World class show jumping!

In addition to Christina Liebherr, many other world-class show jumpers have been able to benefit from the optimum training facilities offered by “La Baumetta” for the sport of show jumping.

At the age of 19, Christina Liebherr had already won four medals at the Junior European Championships. In 2004, she was welcomed into the elite of Swiss show jumping. From then on, she celebrated many successes with her horse “L.B. No Mercy” at leading competitions: including two silver medals at the European Championships in San Patrignano in the individual / team events in 2005, as well as at the Olympic Games in Athens and in Beijing in 2008, where she won the bronze medal with the Swiss team.

The “pop star” of the equestrian scene, the show jumper “Calvaro”, one of the most admired horses Switzerland has ever had, has also trained with his owner in Riaz. These days, young up-and-coming riders, juniors, and top riders including the European elite train at the internationally-acclaimed equestrian facility in Riaz and celebrate successes time and time again.

This is proof of the opportunities and perspectives of “La Baumetta” for equestrian sport – whether you are a talented youngster or already an elite show jumper or dressage rider!

First-class infrastructure – and a paradise for those who love horses and equestrian sports

Three ultramodern stables with boxes for 34 horses. In the wash boxes, horses which have been ridden enjoy the warming rays of the solarium. The stable buildings are also high, which means that the air always circulates well and stays fresh.

The training facilities for all kinds of saddle horse are unique: there is a 50 x 78 metre outdoor arena, a 22 metre diameter horse walker with an integrated lunge circle, a treadmill, and the exclusive 1,560 m2 indoor riding arena, which is the absolute “highlight” of the facility. The steel construction with its glass exterior is a very impressive building, both from the outside and the inside. The riding surface is kept moist with an ebb and flow system.

Attached to the indoor riding arena is a professionally-furnished cafeteria with a flawless view of the riding area, an office wing and a spacious, exclusively equipped event hall. Two residential buildings round off the high-quality building area.

Location advantage of Riaz – domestic and international

Riaz is a Fribourg village in Gruyère, in the foothills of the Fribourg Pre-Alps, and adjacent to Bulle, the regional centre. On fine days, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the gently rolling hills of the Fribourg Pre-Alps.

The nearest connection to the A12 motorway is just 2 km from the village centre. Geneva airport is 1 hour 40 minutes away, and Zurich airport, just over 2 hours. Riaz also has an attractive municipal tax rate of 73%, which is below the cantonal average.

The canton of Fribourg isn’t just an excellent business location, it is also an attractive place in which to live and relax. Its contrasting mix of international flair and local independence, economic dynamism and convivial cosiness, cultural and scenic diversity, with the concentrated energy of a metropolis and the soothing tranquillity of unspoilt nature offers something for everyone. The popular ski resorts of Gstaad (50 min) and Verbier (1h 20 min.) are also within easy reach, as are Montreux and Lake Geneva (35 min.).

Where profession and passion find harmony

Equestrian sports have always fascinated people from many different perspectives. It isn’t just the pursuit of top sporting performance – whether in dressage, show jumping, racing or vaulting – but above all else, the bond with the horse as a partner, and the harmonious interaction between human and animal and the love of equestrian sport which make this into something which is so appealing.

The sophisticated hi-tech infrastructure at the “La Baumetta” equestrian centre offers both domestic and international riders, whether they are talented newcomers or experienced professionals, the opportunity to advance to the very top of the world of equestrian sport.

High-profile equestrian events of representative importance can also be held here, both indoors and outdoors. A gala dinner in the exclusive event hall is the ideal complementary occasion.

For your customers, friends of equestrian sport and residents...

...the state-of-the-art, well-equipped event hall with space for 200 – 300 guests offers the potential for exclusive occasions and world class events. The countless possibilities – equestrian sports events of all kinds, concerts, or large private celebrations such as birthday parties and weddings, etc.

In addition, the various residential complexes, with their interesting potential for further development and extension, offer a horse-loving family the opportunity to live in the complex and participate in the daily events at any time. A dream that many wish for – but which only comes true for a few. And maybe for you!
