The World Cup Final 2014

What a fantastic weekend it has been! I expected Daniel and Cornet to do well, but I did not expect them to win the final! I was guessing someone like Christian Ahlmann, Marcus Ehning, Beezie Madden or Kent Farrington would win. So that it would end up being us was not in my thoughts at all when coming to Lyon.

I was the most nervous on Saturday with the second round – I don't know why, but I was more relaxed on Monday. I woke up with a good feeling – which I never really do – and I felt it would be a good day for us. Also, for me it was a little bit like 'We have come this far, so it's make it or break it now' – I would still be happy if we did not win, as Cornet was jumping so good.

The feeling I was left with when Daniel crossed that finish line after the last round was something like 'Think that this would happen!' It was a kind of simple feeling, the feeling that it was our turn this time. Daniel and I have worked together for four years, first when he was at Jan Tops' and then I followed him to Stephex when he started there. We have gone through a lot together, done a lot together – and to make a win like this together is amazing. Much have gone well for us the past year, but this is the biggest of all!

The feeling of winning didn't last for long though! As Cornet is quite tricky in the prize giving, especially if Daniel gets off him as you have to when there is a podium (then there is a chance he never gets on again...), my first thoughts were practical. Should I get Fyloe for him instead, will I have the time to run down and get him, should I call Kay to get help – things like this. Then Daniel said there would be no time, and that Cornet had to do it himself. The worst thing was to get him in the ring again, he was throwing himself around and at one point he landed on my foot – so I was quite lame myself. Still, I was thinking 'If there is one prize giving I am going into it is this one!'. When Cornet came in, he was quiet happy to be in the spotlight though and behaved well!

Cornet is something special, he is a real character! I always liked him! He is a kind horse and easy to deal with, but he also has this unpredictable side to him. So you have to watch out – he can be a little naughty and a little quirky. Like most cute guys, he is a little bit of a wolf in a sheep skin:-) But he knows he is the best, and that he will get away with whatever with me...

For me this win was huge! I am a competitive person myself, so it is important for me that the horses are doing well. It's always great to follow the youngsters develop and move up in the classes, but a big win like this – that's what you work for in this sport!
