Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat has announced on his Facebook-page that he will not compete his top mount Nino des Buissonnets in another major championship. After winning the individual gold medal at the London Olympic Games, Nino and Steve went to Rio de Jaineiro to defend their title and finished fourth individually.

Steve Guerdat writes on his Facebook-page:

“Above all, I would like to thank the one who makes my life even better all days, Nino. I am well aware that he will not read nor understand this message, I have to include a few lines for him because there is nothing that would have been possible without him. Yes, it is me who sets the goals, but I am absolutely confident that he also likes these great moments more than anything in this world. (…) We will not do more championships together, because he has already given so much and I do not want him to do that again. He returned from Rio in full form and if everything goes well, I would like to compete him in Geneva of course. We will see what the result will be, but without these major championships there will be for sure less pressure on him and as long as he wants to jump, we will continue. Thank you Nino, for having given everything for me once again and for the thrills so many people get who admire you. I say to you what I said to Jalisca a couple of years ago; you are a star. I love you. (…)”
