Close-Up

Tripple X III won team gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London with Ben Maher, and team gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto with Tiffany Foster. Last year, he again impressed at the Olympics representing Canada with Foster holding the reins.

Bred by Ben Maher himself, the now 15-year-old stallion by Namelus R x Catango Z went on to become one of the world’s best horses. However, Maher was not so sure of Tripple X III as a youngster – almost selling him as a 3-year-old as he according to the British rider “looked tall and ugly”. However, Maher felt the stallion so naturally good under the saddle that he decided to keep him.

A good choice: The two did not only win Olympic gold, but also the 2013 Longines King George V Cup at Hickstead as well as the 2013 Grand Prix at London Olympia and the 2012 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Valencia. In 2014, Tripple X III was sold and has since then continued his successful career under Foster.

According to Foster's groom, Caroline Holmberg, Hugo — as he is called by friends —loves attention, always wants to come out first in the mornings, likes a good nap (preferably with his head resting in the banks of shavings) and prefers having his door open so he can stand and look out the aisle. He is gentleman when it comes to eating habits, always waiting patiently to get fed, and doesn't make a mess. Hugo's favorite treat is the Uncle Jimmy's Hangin' Ball, and he'll finish it in a couple days... What Hugo does not like though is other horses, most likely he will squeal and kick if anyone will come too close! But, he's crazy about chestnut mares, especially his old team mate Showgirl.

Now that you know him better, let's take a closer look at the stunning Tripple X III.
