It was all about consistency in Thursday’s finals for the 7-, 6- and 5-year-old horses at the Autumn MET 2016.

The winner of the final for the 7-year-old horses was Hello Vivendi ridden by Louise Simpson (GBR). The Irish-bred gelding by Ars Vivendi x Hallo has jumped several clear rounds during the Autumn MET, and was second in the concluding CSIYH1* 1.40m competition of week two.

Hello Vivendi’s rider Louise Simpson has impressed during the Autumn MET, winning twice in the 7-year-old division with Jaffar de Bourguignon (Lord Z x Darco) and also recording several top three placings with her other older horses in the CSI2* classes.

Simpson is no stranger to producing horses aimed for the top of the sport; she is the one who took Harrie Smolder’s success horse Don VHP Z to international Grand Prix level before he was sold.

Johan Kachelhoffer (RSA) secured the runner-up position in the 7-year-old final aboard the Oldenburger-gelding Carlos 691 (Catoki x Carry Gold), only 0.04 seconds behind Simpson in the jump-off. Riccardo Pisani (ITA) finished third on the Holsteiner-gelding Clide 2 (Cassini I x Cash And Carry), another horse that has recorded several top three finishes during the Autumn MET.

In the final for the 6-year-old horses it was the Belgian-bred gelding Casper J&J Z (Cicero Z x Wiensender) that went to the top. Ridden by Katharina Offel (GER), the grey little rubber ball went early in as number eight out of 57 horses in the ring and with a lightening fast jump-off he held on the top of the score board to the very end.

Casper J&J Z has also been a force to be reckoned with during the Autumn MET, jumping clear in six of his eight rounds and already placing second and fifth in the CSIYH1* 1.30m competitions in week three and four.

Jennifer Fogh Pedersen (DEN) ended as runner-up with the Oldenburger-gelding Class de Light HU (Calato x Stakkato), almost a second behind Offel in the jump-off while third place went to Antonio Mariñas Soto (ESP) on the Portuguese-bred mare Faya Sao Miguel (Cornetto Z x Darco).

Following the three youngster finals, Katharina Offel – a former competitor at the Olympic Games, the World Equestrian Games as well as the European Championships – praised how the Autumn MET gives the younger horses the chance to really develop and learn.

“For the young horses the MET provides perfect facilities. For the greenest ones you can start them up in the clear round ring, then move on to jump them out of competition if necessary and then when they are ready they get the opportunity to jump in three different rings – one of them the big grass ring that can match some of the best in the world,” Offel said after her win.

“I arrived at the Autumn MET with a group of young horses in which most were green and lacking experience at their level. Going home, I know that each of them are ready for what is expected next year – which is especially reassuring with those that turn 8-year-old and have to jump quite a bit bigger. The Autumn MET proved to be the perfect place to take them, and I am very happy I made the choice to come – I got what I came for and a bit more,” Offel smiled as her young horses had concluded their four weeks of competition at the Autumn MET 2016.

The final for the 5-year-olds also saw a consistent horse and rider on top, as Will Edwards (GBR) and the British bred-gelding Tinkas Brook II (Zambesi x Lion d'Or) finished first.

Tinkas Brook II has delivered clear rounds week in and week out at the Autumn MET, and his rider Will Edwards has also impressed with his other 5-year-old Eclipse II (Casanova du Domaine Z x Mr Blue) to take home one of the victories during week three.

It was all British on top in the 5-year-old final, and again Louise Simpson showed her skills to end second with the Irish-bred mare Csf Eye Wonder (Kroongraaf x My Dawn Lady) while Spencer Roe finished third on the KWPN-gelding Gambler B (Campbell VDL x Arkansas).

The Autumn MET 2016 now enters it’s three last days of competition, and will conclude with the CSI2* Grand Prix on Sunday 13 of November.
