International showjumper Jamie Gornall has established one of the finest training yards in Europe at Home Farm, in Kirk Hammerton, North Yorkshire. Set in 15 acres of beautiful countryside between the spa town of Harrogate and historic York, it offers state-of-the-art equestrian facilities for elite showjumping horses and semen from some of the sport's finest bloodlines.

Jamie's analytical approach to horsemanship and commitment to the happiness and wellbeing of equines – and time spent in Germany riding with Olympic gold medallist Ludger Beerbaum – have shaped and influenced the yard and its training regimes.

Gornall Equestrian has 19 stables, which have been created from former dairy farm buildings and include quality fittings by German company Röwer & Rüb (represented in the UK by 21st Century Horse). Care has been taken to ensure that they are large and airy, with great ventilation and thoughtful design, which allows horses to remain visible to one another.

The yard's stable complex also includes a solarium, large tack room with under-floor heating to store leatherwork and saddles at an optimum temperature, and beautiful oak shelving to store rugs and equipment. Fittings here – and in many other areas of the yard – are provided by Dutch company SeBo. An adjoining laundry room takes care of the yard's daily cleaning requirements with a large industrial washer and dryer.

Star of Home Farm is undoubtedly an impressive 35 x 60 metres indoor riding arena, with its unwaxed surface on an Andrews Bowen Equaflow system favoured by the Global Champions Tour series. The arena building, constructed by German company Gebr Schütt (also now represented in the UK by 21st Century Horse), has a Glulam beam structure to the roof – a natural alternative to steel or concrete – with a light-and-ventilation ridge. A suite of luxurious viewing rooms, styled and decorated by Averil Blundell Interior Design, allows owners to enjoy watching their horses' progress in comfort.

There is also a large grass arena that was created following consultation with the Sports Turf Research Institute, which provided advice on grass arenas at both Hickstead and Dublin Showgrounds. An all-weather gallop track with a surface by Andrews Bowen encircles the area and is perfect for supporting aerobic fitness. All horses – including stallions – are allowed to express natural behaviour in a series of individual turnout paddocks with Centaur equine safety fencing.

Work is due to begin shortly on a top-of-the-range horse walker building, complete with central lunge pen.

The needs and training requirements of all equestrian athletes at Home Farm are provided by Gornall Equestrian's team of experts – chosen by Jamie for being some of the best in the business.

Stable manager Piotr Jedrzejczyk comes with a golden CV, having worked for the stables of Jan Tops and Leopold van Asten. Dressage rider Stella Kuczynska, who has been trained by or worked for many of the world's top riders, including Edward Gal and Ludo Philippaerts, ensures that all horses on the yard take part in classical dressage lessons between jumping because Jamie believes that flatwork is key. Every service, from farriery to veterinary, is provided by highly qualified, knowledgeable and experienced practitioners who understand the needs of top competition horses.

“We have succeeded in providing the very best environment for our horses to thrive and achieve their potential,” says Jamie. “Members of the Gornall Equestrian team are committed to excellence and extremely proud of our work with sports horses, from talented youngsters with a huge amount of untapped ability to showjumpers in their prime and at the top of their game.”

Using his passion and knowledge for bloodlines and breeding, Jamie – who has also ridden for the prestigious Holsteiner Verband breeding association in Germany – is now offering semen from some of Europe's finest elite stallions, including Christian 25 and Carsten, who recently came seventh in the Grand Prix at the Baltica Equestrian Tour in Poland.

Christian 25 (above, left) is a modern showjumping stallion who passes on his long legs and scope in canter. As a young stallion, he received four 10s in his licensing. His sire is Cartini, a Holsteiner Premium Stallion, and his dam is Free Lilly. Several of Christian's offspring have become graded stallions.

Carsten (above, right)  is a handsome bay Holstein showjumping stallion. His sire, Cassini I, created a stir in the showjumping world, winning events such as the Arnheim Grand Prix and several Nations Cups.
