Beezie Madden and Darry Lou (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Nabab de Reve) secured the victory for Team USA after a jump-off against Brazil in Saturday's CSIO5* $400,000 BMO Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows.

Both teams – USA consisting of Lauren Hough with Waterford (Coolcorron Cool Diamond x Julio Mariner xx), Charlie Jacobs with Cassinja S (Carinjo x Cassini I), Lillie Keenan with Fibonacci 17 (Corland x Taiusa) and Beezie Madden with Darry Lou as well as Brazil consisting of Eduardo Menezes with Quintol (Quintender x Cento), Pedro Junqueira Muylaert with Prince Royal Z MFS (Unknown), Yuri Mansur Guerios with Babylotte (Dollar du Murier x Concorde) and Pedro Veniss with Quabri de L’Isle (Kannan x Socrate de Chivre) – ended both rounds on a score of 8 faults and had to battle it out in a jump-off.

Brazil however, had a dramatic start to the Nations Cup as their first rider Eduardo Menezes fell off after fence no. six and was brought out with ambulance. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as it looked and Menezes was back on his legs shortly after, but that left the Brazilian team with only three riders. In the first round the rest of the Brazilian riders all went clear, but when a pole fell for Pedro Junqueira Muylaert in round two the pressure was on. Brazil's anchor rider Pedro Veniss could have secured the victory for Brazil, but with a pole falling at the end of the course his team ended on the same score as the USA. Team USA got their eight faults during the first round, but stepped it up for the second leaving them on a clean sheet there.

It was Pedro Junqueira Muylaert and Prince Royal Z MFS that went into the ring for a third time against Beezie Madden. Junqueira Muylaert gave it his best shot, but lost some time in the turns and finished slightly behind Madden’s 39,21 seconds with his time of 39,75.

Team Germany – Philipp Weishaupt with Solitaer 41 (Salito x Goldfasan), Holger Wulschner with BSC Cha Cha Cha (Casall x Le Grand I), Patrick Stuhlmeyer with Lacan 2 (Lando x Contender) and Marco Kutscher with Clenur (Carinue x Fernando) – started off the Nations Cup in a very good way, leaving them with only one time fault and a second place after the first round. In the second round however, Philipp Weishaupt’s Solitaer 41 put in a surprising refusal on the open water, after jumping it perfectly in the first round. And when Wulschner and Stuhlmeyer both got four faults each, Germany had to add eight faults to their previous time penalty. When their last-man Kutscher entered the ring it was up to him to secure the third place and push Canada down to fourth. With a steady clear from the outstanding German rider, he did just that.

Fourth place went to the hosts Canada, fifth place to Belgium and sixth place to France. Switzerland and Italy ended as rank seven and eight.
