Legendary U.S. showjumper William “Bill” Steinkraus has passed away at the age of 92. A five-time Olympian and U.S. showjumping’s first individual gold medalist, Steinkraus passed away on November 29, surrounded by the comfort of his family.

“Bill Steinkraus has left a lasting impression on U.S. show jumping and equestrian sport, not solely because of his accomplishments inside the ring, but also for giving back to the sport he loved,” says  USEF President Murray Kessler in a press release from the federation. “He will forever be admired for his impeccable riding ability and talent in the show ring, as well as the commitment he gave to the sport for over five decades as a judge, director at the American Horse Shows Association (now USEF), and president of the FEI World Cup Committee.”
