CSI5* Longines Masters of Lausanne 2019

Press release from EEM

For its first edition, which will take place from June 20 to 23, no less than forty-five riders and twelve nations will make the trip to the Longines Masters in Lausanne to run the Masters One (CSI5*). The unique appeal of this sports city, seat of the FEI, and the delightful setting of this final stage of the Season IV of the Longines Masters series have had the desired effect! It is an exceptional weekend that is prepared on the place Bellerive, with the best of sport, but also many celebrations such as the‘‘Fête de la Musique’’.

With a line-up equally rich in diversity and the quality of the champions it comprises, this Season IV will undoubtedly end on a high note, with a firework display along the lake, exceptional riders from four continents –Europe, the two Americas, and the Middle and Far East– and, as headliner of this prestigious cast, none other than the world’s No. 1, three-time World Cup winner and Olympic Champion in London: Steve Guerdat of Switzerland, who feels that ‘‘Christophe (Ameeuw) can be trusted to make it a very beautiful event.’’

The Jura native will be based at this time in western Canada, in Calgary, but for this Longines Masters in Lausanne, he has decided to cross the North American continent and the Atlantic to gather some victories on Place Bellerive. That’s his way of supporting this new event which, in Lausanne, will welcome two other gold medalists, the winners from Rio, Pénélope Leprévost and Philippe Rozier of France. The French love Swiss competitions and generally come in large numbers: thus Thierry Rozier, Philippe’s younger brother, now a permanent member of the French team, especially since his fourth place in the Longines Masters of Paris’ Longines Grand Prix, and Simon Delestre, former world No.1, will be travelling with three other French riders from the Riders Lab, dear to EEM, always keen to boost the careers of young riders like Edward Levy, among the most faithful participants in the series.

Switzerland will also be massively present, with eight representatives including a few big international stars, all wearing the red jacket at the Nations Cup, such as Paul Estermann, Niklaus Rutschi, Alain Jufer and Beat Mändli, also a former World Cup winner (a Swiss specialty). Six other Swiss riders will participate in the Masters Two events, including Florence Schwizer, a high-performance CSI4* athlete, and above all the protégée of the city of Lausanne (which also sponsors her): the 20-year-old Mathilde Cruchet.

The United States will have eight representatives for both categories, including Kristen Vanderveen, who was particularly successful at the Longines Masters ofNew York, notably in the Longines Speed Challenge, the fastest event in the world, where she finished second. In Lausanne, the Italian Emanuele Gaudiano could be a serious competitor in the Swiss version of this event. Two northern stars will also be lining up at the start, the Swedes Henrik von Eckermann, a regular on the World Cup podiums, and Douglas Lindelow, not to mention the Belgians Nicola Philippaerts and Gudrun Patteet.

A festival of nations and great champions in celebration of the horse, music and summer, featuring a pleasant and skillful cocktail of top-level sport (with an original program) and lifestyle. The Longines Masters of Lausanne is the Swiss summer equestrian event not to be missed in a magical setting of sails and mountains in the background. It’s going to be unique...

The young generation in the spotlight at the Longines Masters of Lausanne

The ‘‘Riders Lab’’, the champions factory

As a real driving force on the international equestrian scene, EEM’s goal is to promote show jumping, but also to reach a new audience around the world. Part of the future of this sport lies in creating new icons for the younger generation of equestrian enthusiasts. EEM has therefore created its «Riders Lab» to support, train and enable the best young riders to compete in the most beautiful competitions.

In Lausanne, a selection of young talents has been invited to participate in the Longines Masters alongside the best riders and horses on earth. The Swiss Bryan Balsinger, the French Edward Levy, Alexandra Paillot and Agathe Vacher, the Italian Filippo Marco Bologni, the Belgians Pieter Clemens and Arnaud Doem, the German Marcel Marschall, the Dutch Jurre Van Bommel and the Japanese Hikari Yoshizawa will all ride under the banner of this ‘‘Riders Lab’’ on the Masters One.

Young Swiss talents at the forefront

The Longines Masters of Lausanne is delighted to welcome young Swiss riders to compete in front of their home crowd. The Swiss Equestrian Federation has selected ten local riders, all very promising, in the «children» category to participate in the Masters Three, as well as two «junior» riders in the Masters Two. For them, it will be a unique opportunity to discover the background of a 5* competition, but also to meet their idols.

The Longines Masters: a different showjumping experience

Created by Christophe Ameeuw and his EEM teams, the Longines Masters series stands out from other competitions on the international show jumping circuit. ‘‘My creed’’, explains the Belgian organizer, ‘‘is to offer the public a more enjoyable and accessible vision of our sport while ensuring the quality and values of a discipline that I care about: it’s about reinventing show jumping.’’ It’s a vision that the Belgian entrepreneur has successfully taken from Paris to the Asian continent in Hong Kong and then to America in New York. The Longines Masters will now be hosted on the shores of Lake Leman.

Thus, during this brand new Longines Masters of Lausanne, the Swiss public will be able to discover cadenced events, some of them exclusive to this series.

Four days of the best of this sport from Thursday, June 20th. On Friday, spectators will already be able to enjoy the class with jump-off of the weekend, the Prix de la Ville de Lausanne, and a Vaulting demonstration by the Noroc Company, and from Saturday they will be able to discover the three signature classes of this series: the Masters Power (Saturday afternoon), high jump class, in respect of the horse with very light bars, the now famous Longines Speed Challenge (Saturday night), considered to be the fastest class of the world. Here, downed poles are only penalized by 2 seconds which gives the riders who drop a pole a chance to catch up with if they ride really fast!

The third of those flagship events will be the Longines Grand Prix, certainly the highlight of a Longines Masters, and the Lausanne event will be no exception. Running from 3:45 p.m. on Sunday in two rounds, it’s an Olympic-level class (1.60m) that usually features great champions.

Beyond these three major events, no less than 21 events will be held on Place Bellerive, an idyllic setting facing Lake Leman. Among them are events reserved for amateurs (and also for international professional riders developing young horses) and Swiss national riders with the Masters Two and Masters Three classes. This is a unique opportunity for these riders to meet the stars of the Masters One events, to exchange ideas or to be inspired by them. Each of these categories will be highlighted on Sunday with a fun ‘‘Accumulator with joker’’ class.
