FEI has tonight updated their timeline for the EHV-1 outbreak, after being notified of five new deaths related to the outbreak that originated in Valencia. Two deaths occurred in Belgium and three in Germany (including a neonatal foal), where it was also confirmed that five mares had aborted foals at the same stables. This has very sadly brought the total number of related deaths in this outbreak to 17.

Furthermore, the FEI informed that a horse in Slovakia has left a positive EHV-1 test after returning home from Valencia.

Good news include that more horses have been able to leave the venue in Valencia, including three from Denmark, seven from Sweden and twelve from both the Netherlands and Spain. There are still ten horses in the Valencia veterinary clinic, but none of these are in intensive care.

The FEI has also informed that the 856 horses competing at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova, Spain since the start of the Spring MET II on the 9th of February have been blocked by FEI. The FEI has been advised that two horses had tested positive for EHV-1 at their home stables in Belgium, and another horse in Switzerland, after returning from the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour. Although the two horses in Belgium were subsequently negative in re-tests, all 856 horses were nevertheless blocked in the FEI database.
