Cocktail de Talma The stud's great star, Cocktail de Talma (Baloubet du Rouet x Cento), who continues to progress at 9 years old, is well and truly present in the catalogue.

With nearly 30 years of experience, the Haras de Talma has established itself as one of the pillars of Selle Français breeding. Based in Champagne Ardenne, veterinary doctor Michel Guiot has built up a quality breeding operation based on renowned strains crossed with the best genetics.

This year, the Haras de Talma has decided to organise an exceptional sale by presenting not only the whole of its 3-year-old generation but also several broodmares from its best strains as well as its best fillies born at the beginning of the season. This selection will allow everyone to acquire the best of the Haras' genetics.

The aim is to reach both buyers for the big sport, breeders looking for a great broodmare as well as riders of a more amateur level, especially as these are strains with blood but which are characterised above all by a desire to do well. A direct sale from the producer to the consumer with horses bred in a true philosophy where nothing is left to chance.

Michel Guiot "Horses are gregarious and it is important that they can grow up in a herd. These batches stay together until they are three years old. I think this is the way the horses feel best," Michel Guiot says.

A doctor of veterinary medicine, Michel Guiot masters his subject and has clearly defined the way in which he wanted to develop his breeding for all these years: "We are lucky to live in Argonne, a region bordering the Ardennes, the Meuse and the Marne. It is a very wooded and grassy region with very good pastures. The success of our breeding is also based on the quality of the pasture we have, because we don't raise horses on pellets at home, but on grass and hay in winter that we produce ourselves. The horses live outside from the end of March to mid-December. The rest of the year they are in loose stalls where they can travel and go outside and have hay at their disposal. This gives us hardy horses with good veterinary visits. We carry out X-ray check-ups at the end of our horses' second year and those that are not satisfactory are not kept."

Talma Auction "The success of our breeding is also based on the quality of the pasture we have, because we don't raise horses on pellets at home, but on grass and hay in winter that we produce ourselves. The horses live outside from the end of March to mid-December," Michel Guiot says.

But the desire is also to allow these young horses to live a life as a horse during their growing years. "The chance for a large breeding operation like ours is also to be able to make large, homogeneous batches. Horses are gregarious and it is important that they can grow up in a herd. These batches stay together until they are three years old. I think this is the way the horses feel best."

Obviously, this true genetic enthusiast has built up a solid heritage that he continues to improve over the years: "We selected pure Selle Français bloodlines at the start and all of them are well known for their performance. Often on these lines, we have been able to find a very good foreign sire tested on performance. This is how we went to Cento, Carthago, Catoki, Contender. Our aim was to bring back strength and we kept all the daughters of these stallions. We then cross them with Selle Français and in general, we stay with Selle Français for the rest. All our horses are performance tested by competing at least 4 to 6 years old and our objective is to keep the best daughters at stud."

The Collection

Insolente de Talma Insolente de Talma (Mylord Carthago X Baloubet du Rouet)

The Talma stud has a number of very high quality and varied stock. The stud's great star, Cocktail de Talma (Baloubet du Rouet x Cento), who continues to progress at 9 years old, is well and truly present in this catalogue. Sixth of his very first Grand Prix 5* last weekend, he proudly presents a product of his first generation (Idéalist d'Asschaut n°5) showing enormous means but also through the products of his own sister, Cocaïne de Talma who also performs over 1m45 showing still a great margin of progression. These are numbers 17 and 18: Insolent (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve) and Insolente de Talma (Mylord Carthago) but also n° 13 Indigo de Talma (Quick Star), grandson of the nations cup mare Valkyrie de Talma and n° 27, Perine du Moulin (Quick Star), in foal to Mylord Carthago.

Lambada de Talma Lambada de Talma (Baloubet du Rouet x Quidam de Revel)

Although the Olympic champion Rahotep de Toscane (Quidam de revel) has just retired from sport, this very prolific strain is well represented in this sale with n°3 Icone de Talma (Giovanni de la Pomme), n°10 Image de Talma (Mylord Carthago), the n°11 Imothep de Talma (Mylord Carthago) but also the filly n° 22 Lambada de Talma (Baloubet du Rouet) and the brood mare n° 26 Esperanza de Talma (Canturo), a direct daughter of the former French 7 year old champion Karla de Toscane and in foal to Mylord Carthago.

Illicite de Talma Illicite de Talma (Ogrion des Champs x Baloubet du Rouet)

The stud's emblematic stock from which Alexandra Leedermann's star Requiem de Talma is descended, as well as the stallions Opium and Adagio de Talma, not forgetting Talma's great winner Very Nice, is represented by n° 6 Idem de Talma (For Feeling) and n°9 Illicite de Talma (Ogrion des Champs), as well as the fillies n° 21 Lady de Talma (Balou du Reventon) and n°23 Lola de Talma (Ogrion des Champs).

Irreelle de Talma Irreelle de Talma (By Cera d'Ick x Quaprice)

It is also difficult not to mention the Itot du Château line, which is represented by two siblings of the international Baikal de Talma, n° 1 and 19, I Am de Talma (Lifestyle) and the bouncing Irréelle de Talma (By Cera d'Ick).

We also find the strain of Baloubet du Rouet with n°4 Idaho de Talma (Mylord Carthago) or that of Leffe and Pegase de Talma with n°20 Irving de Talma (Vigo Cécé).

Infinity de Talma Infinity de Talma (Ogrion des Champs x Kashmir van Schuttershof)

But if the French strains are predominant at Talma's stud, Michel Guiot has not forgotten his origins with some Belgian strains including the famous Qerly Chin who is present with the three year old Infinity de Talma (n°15 by Ogrion des Champs) and Initially de Talma (n°16 by Clarimo) and the filly Lullaby de Talma (n°25 by Canturano)
