On Saturday, the curtains closed for Marcus Ehning's long-time partner Comme Il Faut 5 (Cornet Obolensky x Ramiro) as the 16-year-old stallion was retired during the Longines FEI European Championships at Riesenbeck International, Germany. Comme Il Faut did his last international appearance during Saturday's CSI3* Grand Prix, before a special farewell ceremony followed with words from both Marcus Ehning and Ludger Beerbaum.

With Ehning in the saddle, Comme Il Faut has had a long and successful career. Together, the two have many big victories under their belt: They topped the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix in Brussels in 2018, as well as the CSI5* Longines FEI World Cup in Madrid and the CSI5* LGCT Grand Prix in Vienna in 2016 – to mention some. In addition, they have finished on the podium in CSI5* Grand Prix and World Cup classes in Leipzig, London, Rotterdam and Rome. In 2019, they took team silver for Germany at the European Championships in Rotterdam.

Comme Il Faut will now focus full-time on his breeding career.

We look back at Saturday's ceremony where Comme Il Faut took a final farewell with the top sport, as we wish him happy retirement.
