Over the years the international showjumping competitions at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre and around the world have increased significantly. Riders are spoiled for choice were to jump a CSI2* show at any given moment. Therefore, Peelbergen is changing their two-star program. Shifting the focus more towards building-up horses for the next level instead of qualifying to compete.

In Kronenberg, the Netherlands the focus will be more on competing than qualifying. “The current level at CSI2* shows is very high. We want to prevent horses and riders having to give it their all, to qualify for a ranking class or a Grand Prix. We want Peelbergen to be a venue where horses can be built-up, which is what our equestrian centre has become known for over the years”, managing director Ken Ruysen tell us. “We have chosen to change the schedule in such a way that there is less pressure to qualify for the main classes.”

Equal rankings, less qualifiers

“We will still have two ranking classes, but riders will not have to qualify to jump the first ranking class. There will also be an extra number of riders that can compete in the Grand Prix on Saturday night. This change allows riders to focus more on jumping a nice round instead of having to qualify to compete another day”, Ruysen explains. “Contestants that want their horses to get a feel for the arena can still jump on the arrival day (Wednesday), but this will not be an official class, just a warming-up course to get into the swing of things.”

Optional break

Peelbergen will organize the CSI shows from Thursday till Saturday. “This way the riders and grooms have the option of a break on Sundays. “We are able to organize the two-star shows in three days because of our two indoor show arenas. Our aim is to start at a reasonable hour in the morning and finish at an acceptable hour in the evening as well. Riders and grooms can still choose to stay up late by having a drink or two in our restaurant, but the program will not run into the late hours of the night.”

Van Mossel Super Grand Prix

The only shows that will run for four days is the final CSI in December. During this show the Van Mossel Super Grand Prix will take place on Sunday December 19th. In this class all the winners of the past Grand Prix’s (since January 2020) are invited to compete against each other to win a year long drive in an Audi A4 Avant Quattro, made possible by Peelbergen partner Van Mossel Automotive Group.
