The Young Riders Academy program enters its ninth year of activity, and despite the difficulties generated by the pandemic, the sports team is ready to start 2022 with the new selection that will take place February 6th to 8th in Peelbergen, the Netherlands.

Each European Federation has been invited to enter up to three candidates. Each contender will be requested to attend the selection with two horses, one horse competing in 1.45m classes and one young horse (5-7 years) to give the sport committee a broader basis for assessing riding skills.

For this edition, the YRA has received twenty-nine entries from seventeen countries, and the 2022-panel of Emile Hendrix, Otto Becker, Jean-Maurice Bonneau and Sven Holmberg will be assessing the candidates.

Throughout the years, 215 talented candidates have participated in the selections and 64 have been part of the program. The purpose of the YRA is to assist in training young talents and prepare their careers as future professionals in the sport. Once again, five to six promising riders will through the program get the chance to have several months of training and boarding at an established and experienced professional stable.

The program also provides professional education on many other topics; business, communication, economics, legal aspects, sponsoring as well as veterinary matters. For this edition, the educational program also offers a deeper insight into the digital world, where sports and athletes are becoming more and more active with their fans.

“We are about to start our YRA 8th edition, and we are very thrilled for the next team of young riders coming in. We all share the same values, rights, and duties, but duties in this world, again, are very important to mention as a priority. This is our aim and our spirit, and I say ‘we’ because Young Riders Academy is plural, it’s a group of passionate people who share the same values of the sport,” Jean Maurice Bonneau said.

The Young Riders Academy is a program conceived for European talented young show jumpers with the cooperation of the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC) and the support of Rolex since its first edition. Founded in 2014 by Athenaeum, a non-profit association, the program will give talented riders between the ages of 18 and 23 the chance to live and train for several months at an international professional stable. On top of it, professional education in communication, business and economics, veterinary and legal practice related to show jumping. The goal is to grow future champions as well as potential managers of this sport.
