Cassandra Orschel (POL) wrote her name into the history books of showjumping on Sunday when winning the 2022-edition of the Hamburg Jumping Derby presented by IDEE KAFFEE; becoming the first female rider since 1975 to take the top honours in this traditional class.

Riding the 11-year-old mare Dacara E (Cancara x Caretino), Orschel impressed by making easy work out of the very difficult derby track. With only four faults in the first round, Orschel was one out of four riders that qualified for the jump-off where she was the only one to deliver a clear round – securing the win.

Orschel, who lives in Hamburg, couldn’t be happier after her victory. “When you do the derby for the very first time and can ride in front of a crowd like this, you will be happy with such a round – no matter what the result would be,” she said.

The plan for Orschel was to ride a different horse in the derby, but when training Dacara E got to join and it turned out that the mare solved all the questions with ease. “Then I really wanted to try this – as a Hamburgerin at the derby,” Orschel said.

The runner-up position went to Fredric Tillmann (GER) with the only 8-year-old Comanche v. (Cellestial x Loredo), after adding four faults in the jump-off. “Comanche is very inexperienced, and it was a bit risky to start him here in the derby, but he has a super mind, huge scope, is very brave and wants to do everything right. He really proved that today and I’m super proud of him,” Tillmann said.

Andre Thieme (GER) and Contadur (Conteros x Kolibi) finished third after recording eight faults in a time of 50.08 seconds in the jump-off, followed by Sandra Auffarth (GER) with Nupafeed’s La Vista (Lordanos x For Pleasure) who also added eight faults to her score in the jump-off with a time of 52.29 seconds. The fifth place went to Max-Hilmar Borchert (GER) with Cent-Blue (Dobel's Cento x Chacco-Blue), after the pair had the fastest time of those on eight faults in the first round.
