Home win for Spain in Longines EEF Nations Cup of Madrid

The Spanish team celebrated in front of a home crowd after winning the Longines EEF Nations Cup of Madrid on Saturday, the fifth leg of the Longines EEF Series 2022.

Ten teams had lined up for the Nations Cup at the beautiful Club de Campo Villa in Madrid: Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Chile, Mexico and the USA. The Spanish team’s performance was impeccable, with double clear rounds from Manuel Fernandez Saro on Acoufina PS (Action-Breaker x Contefino), Santiago Nuñez Riva on Valentino de Hus Z  (Vivaldi du Seigneur x Trophee du Rozel) and Eduardo Alvarez Aznar on Full Option van't Zand (Flamingo K x Lord Z). 

With a score of four penalties, Belgium – with Thibeau Spits on Classic Touch DH (Casall x Corrado), Thibault Philippaerts on Derby de Riverland (Kannan x L'Arc de Triomphe), Gudrun Patteet on Sea Coast Donna Z (Diamant de Semilly x C Indoctro) and Gilles Thomas on Calleryama (Casall x Contender) on the team – finished second, while Ireland ended third with a score of eight with Richard Howley on Consulent de Prelet Z (Consulent Z x Fuego du Prelet), Jessica Burke on Namamia (Fantomas de Muze x Berlin), Kevin Gallagher on Ballypatrick Flamenco (Je T'Aime Flamenco x Cruising) and Jenny Rankin on Carmela Z (Candillo x Nissan Caretano Z) on the team.

Five nations from Region West have qualified for the semi final in Deauville: 

1. Ireland 180 points
1. Spain 180 points
3. Belgium 160 points
4. France 150 points
5. Portugal 120 points
