Sunday’s highlight at the Longines PfingstTurnier in Wiesbaden, Germany, was the CSI4* 1.50m Preis des Hessischen Ministerpräsidenten, which saw Cian O’Connor (IRL) yet again take the top honours – this time riding the 9-year-old stallion Taj Mahal (Emerald van’t Ruytershof x Quannan R).

A total of 41 horse-and-rider combinations had lined up for the class, which counted for the world ranking, and nine produced clear rounds to move on the jump-off. With a proper rain shower a little more than half-way into the class, some horses and riders, including the winning pair, got an extra challenge in the big grass ring in Wiesbaden, but the weather conditions did not stop O’Connor and his talented stallion.

With a double clear round, and a time of 47.52 seconds in the jump-off, O’Connor took his second win of the weekend in Wiesbaden, after also topping Saturday’s 1.50m Lotto-Hessen Preis with C Vier (Cardento x Concorde). Second place went to Bernardo Alves (BRA) and El Torreo de Muze (Taran de La Pomme x Vigo d’Arsouilles), that stopped the clock at 47.91 seconds in the jump-off. Coming in as last to go, Max Wachman (IRL) came quite close to beating his trainer O’Connor, as he aboard Quintini (Quintender 2 x Cassini II) crossed the finish line in 48.88 seconds to take the third place. With four faults in the jump-off, Vladimir Tretera (CZE) finished fourth with Gangster vh Noddevelt (Eldorado van de Zeshoek TN x Careful), while fifth went to Gerben Morsink (NED) on Carina Z (Carthino Z x Guidam) – also with four faults in the jump-off.

"Taj Mahal is an incredible athlete," O'Connor said to World of Showjumping. "He jumped fantastic again today and I’m really delighted for his owner Susan Magnier for the trust to slowly develop this brilliant stallion. It was super that Max was also double clear and placed third with Quintini."
