Germany’s Richard Vogel and the 8-year-old United Call JPS (United Touch S x Singulord Joter, bred by Julius-Peter Sinnack) won Friday’s Youngster Tour at this year's TSCHIO Aachen and also placed third in Saturday's young horse class. “He is a very exciting horse,” Vogel tells World of Showjumping. “He is already eight, but he is actually quite inexperienced. Aachen was his first international show, and I think it is clear how impressed he was by the set-up there – he is a sensitive horse.”
“Many United Touch offspring that I have had the pleasure to ride are sensitive, and they usually have a lot of blood,” Vogel points out. “United Call is a very tall horse, so it is positive for his size that he is sensitive and has a lot of blood, that is what we need nowadays in the modern sport. Additionally, he has a good character; he really wants to do well.”
“It was a jump in the cold water for him on Friday and to be honest I was not happy with the round we had,” Vogel says about United Call’s FEI debut. “I don’t think it was smooth enough, so I was happy to have the rest of the weekend to make it better. Together with his breeder and owner Julius-Peter Sinnack, we were discussing back and forth whether it is too early to bring him to Aachen. However, we decided to take him because we have no pressure with him. I do think he will be a horse that will feel at home in these kind of rings in the future, so sooner or later he would have needed to step into them. Normally, the youngster tour in Aachen is inviting, they don’t try to test the horses too much, so I felt confident that it would not be too much of an ask for United Call."
“Julius-Peter is a real horse person,” Vogel says about United Call’s breeder and owner. “When United Call was five, he felt that the horse still needed time to grow into his body, so he got a lot of time of as a six- and seven-year-old. He did not do much then, and that is why he now is still a little bit behind if you look at the experience other horses in his age group have. However, I think that long-term, it was definitely the right decision to give him time to grow. Now, he is green, but he did not have any negative experiences. While he is surprised about the atmosphere, he is such a positive horse and so game for everything, and he wants to do the right thing and tries to do well. He is a fighter, just like his dad, and I think it won’t take him long to catch up on the mileage he has missed so far."
