Close-Up

Lintea Tequila, Edwina Tops-Alexander’s feisty, little mare is the next star out in our Close-Up series. With Tops-Alexander, Tequila has won five-star Grand Prix classes in Miami, Doha and Valkenswaard as well as recording several second and third place finishes in some of the biggest classes around the world. The 14-year-old mare jumped at the Rio Olympics last summer, finishing 9th individually.

“Well, she is quite special. She is a horse that was underestimated by a lot of people, and a horse that did not arrive at my stables as a Grand Prix horse,” Tops-Alexander said in an interview with World of Showjuming. “Our thoughts were certainly not on the Olympics when she came to us, but she ended up jumping in Rio (…) and did it with so much ease and style. Tequila is a little bit similar to Toti (Itot du Chateau); she has a great mind and great character. Tequila has so much elasticity in her body and sharpness and she is never tired.”

According to her rider, Tequila is a mare that is very sure of herself and not afraid of anything. “She is definitely the boss in the stables,” says Tops-Alexander. “She gives lots of love bites and sometimes with her ears forward”.

Among her likes are bananas, and Edwina says that she thrives on attention: “She really loves to go on the show and compete.” Like any mare, Tequila also has her dislikes: “She doesn't like many other horses close to her, especially mares, and she insists on getting her food first,” Tops-Alexander reveals.

And, Tequila’s own rider is her biggest fan: “I think she is the most beautiful horse ever,” says Edwina about her special mare.

So, let's close in on Lintea Tequila!
