Last month, the now 16-year-old Zangersheide mare Legacy (Chippendale Z x Bon Ami – bred by Romain Rotty, owned by Ariel Grange) retired from the sport.

"Legacy's career and fame has spanned the world, but only two of us truly know the life altering, incredible magic that is Legacy, because for Daniel and I, she changed our lives in everyway,"  Ariel Grange, owner of Legacy, shared on social media as she announced the news of Legacy's retirement. "We have lived every heartbreak, struggle, elation, celebrated every victory and success (sometimes a little too much), and at the end of it all we are the ones that had to be her voice and make the hardest decision of our professional lives, to hang up the saddle. Although we are sad at the end of a journey we feel like we have lived all our lives, we are so happy to give back a life that she laid on the line for us time and time again."

With Ireland’s Daniel Coyle in the saddle, Legacy moved up through the levels from international young horse classes to jumping at the 2021 and 2025 European Championships, at the 2022 World Championships and at the 2024 Olympic Games. During their career together, the two have won the CSI4*-W 1.60m Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Fort Worth, the CSI5* 1.55m MLSJ Grand Prix at Thermal, the CSI5*-W 1.60m Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Toronto, the CSI5*-W 1.60m Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Amsterdam and Leipzig, and have topped the CSI5*-W 1.60m London Grand Prix.

Coyle and Legacy have been regulars on the Irish team, finishing 10th individually at the 2022 World Championships in Herning and winning on the opening day of the 2025 European Championships in A Coruña.
