Abdel Saïd (BEL) and the 11-year-old gelding Quaker Brimbelles Z (Quicksilver St Simeon x Hickstead) won Sunday’s CSI5*-W 1.55m H.H. Sharjah Ruler Cup presented by Longines in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Stopping the clock on 50.18 seconds in the second round, besting a field of 40 horse-and-rider combinations, Saïd took the win ahead of Sophie Hinners (GER) and Iron Dames Kaleni Jo (Kannan x Indoctro), who had to settle for the second place in 51.62. René Tebbel (GER) on Paulus-L (Corydon van T&L x Toulon) completed the podium in third, jumping clear in 52.81 seconds, while Shane Breen (IRL) with BP Arctic Blue (A Pikachu de Muze x Chacco-Blue) followed in fourth with a time of 53.59. Antonia Pettersson Häggström (SWE) aboard Qartoon van de Plataan (Emerald x Toulon) rounded out the top five in 53.97.
The second five-star class of the day, the CSI5*-W 1.50m presented by UAEERF went to Ireland’s Trevor Breen and the 9-year-old gelding Konrad Obolensky (Cornet Obolensky x Stakkato). Michael Pender (IRL) on HHS Orchidee (Le Roi x Luidam) placed second, followed by David Will (GER) and Oak Grove’s Big Blue (Balou du Rouet x Corlensky G) in third.
